Néstor Jiménez opens his first solo exhibition at Proyectos Monclova Installation view. MEXICO CITY .- What is the importance of being self-sufficient if not learning to be useful to others? This is one of the key questions Néstor Jiménez (Mexico City, 1988) poses in his first solo exhibition at Proyectos Monclova. Conscious that the concept of self-sufficiency is in reality a fantasy because it is always in constant tension with independence on the personal level and social codependency, the work Jiménez presents in this exhibition positions itself between these two concepts. Composed of 28 recent paintings – all works were realized during 2020 – this exhibition converses with certain ideas of the socialist school and the coming and going between the struggle for individual well-being and the common good. In each work, Jiménez represents the diverse ideological distortions resulting from the numerous interpretations of the policies of USSR, reflected in the vernacular

PICTURES: Flooding in Evesham

HEAVY rain on Friday night has once again caused flooding in parts of the county. The Waterside in Evesham closed last night and flood warnings remain in place in the area with many surrounding roads currently flooded. A flood warning is also in place for Harvington and Offenham with water levels predicted to rise at the Bidford-On-Avon river gauge. Jubilee bridge in Fladbury and Brook Lane in Cropthorne are also closed.  Elsewhere in the county, the council’s flood alleviation schemes at New Road in Worcester and the A4104 in Upton have kept these key routes open to traffic, although flood warnings are in place at Pitchcroft, the Barbourne river gauge and in Upton upon Severn, meaning immediate action is required.

NEH grant to support digital archive of Black choreographers work Professor Mason has been working for a number of years to archive the work of Black choreographers. AUSTIN, TX .- In December, the National Endowment for the Humanities awarded just under $100,000 for a project spearheaded by University of Texas at Austin Associate Professor of Dance Gesel Mason to support her ongoing project to archive the work of Black choreographers. Mason and co-project director Rebecca Salzer, associate professor of dance and director of the Collaborative Arts Research Initiative at the University of Alabama, received an NEH Digital Humanities Advancement Grant for their project “Prototyping an Extensible Framework for Access to Dance Knowledge.”
